On the vast amounts of Inca gold possibly buried deep inside the Cordillera de Llanganates of Ecuador. In 1533, conquistador Francisco Pizarro agreed to allow the Inca Atahualpa his freedom in exchange for filling a room with gold. However, Pizarro distrusted Atahualpa and killed him before all the treasure had arrived. The Inca general Rumiñahui, coming down from the area of modern Ecuador with 750 tons of gold, turned back upon hearing of the murder of Atahualpa and returned to prepare to fight the Spaniards in the north.
